Abstract

Objective: to verify the quality of working cast and planning sent by general dentists to dental laboratories for the construction of removable partial dentures (RPD). Materials and Methods: Twenty laboratories of Porto Alegre were randomly visited and one hundred cases were analyzed. The material sent by the dentist was examined, photographed and registered. The data analyzed were: dental preparation, planning and technical conditions. Results: The dental preparation was performed in 28% of the cases and the planning in 35% of them. The extension of the saddles was delimitated in 3% and the second molar was present in 88% of cases. The type [V gypsum was used in 67% of the casts, and 9% of them were articulated in semi adjustable articulator. Conclusions: It may be concluded that general dentists continue unknowing the clinical and technical principles in the construction of removable partial denture, compromising the preservation of the supporting structure and consequently, the oral health of the patients.
