Abstract

Aim: The prevalence of erosive tooth wear (ETW) has increased considerably in recent years. In addition to knowing how to diagnose mineral loss, it is important to know its causes. To validate a questionnaire that addressed the potential factors associated with the diagnosis, expanding the findings on lifestyle and habits that increase the risk of erosive tooth wear. Materials and methods: a questionnaire containing 68 questions was applied, in digital form, to a group of researchers (n = 15) and a group of swimmers (n=15). Participants answered the questionnaire and evaluated the questions applied, in a table format in Excel, answering whether the questions were adequate, inadequate, or partially adequate. When the questions were not considered adequate, the participants should indicate their considerations for editing the questions. The questionnaires were reformulated after consideration by both groups until 75% of the “adequate” opinion was obtained for each of the questions. Results: Initially, 44.12% of the questions were considered adequate, 52.94% partially adequate and 2.94% inadequate. The questions were modified according to the participants' suggestions until reaching the desirable acceptance. Discussion: In general, the questionnaire was well accepted by the evaluators, supported by the practicality of the digital format for evaluating the information collected. Conclusion: The use of this validated questionnaire in digital format to assess the habits and behavior of participants proved to be accessible and practical, streamlining data collection and facilitating the execution of the research.
