Digital Archive Preservation Policy

The journal Produto & Produção is committed to the long-term preservation of its digital content and ensures continuous access to its digital archives. To this end, we have implemented the following preservation policies:

1. Storage and Redundancy
- All digital files of the journal are stored on multiple UFRGS servers to ensure redundancy and protection against data loss.
- Secure and high-availability servers are used for primary storage, with automatic daily backups performed on secondary storage systems.

2. File Formats
- Articles and associated documents are stored in open standard formats (e.g., PDF/A, XML) that are widely accepted and supported for long-term preservation.
- Periodic reviews of file formats are conducted to ensure their sustainability and to convert files to new formats when necessary to maintain accessibility.

3. Data Migration
- Data migration strategies are implemented to ensure that digital files remain accessible and usable as storage and access technologies evolve.
- Files are periodically migrated to new platforms and formats to avoid technological obsolescence.

4. Integrity Control
- Periodic integrity checks are performed on the files by generating and comparing checksums (hashes) to detect and correct any alterations or data corruption.
- Integrity control processes are carried out regularly and before and after any data migration process.

5. Access and Security
- Continuous access to digital files is ensured through reliable content management systems.
- Robust security measures are implemented to protect digital files against unauthorized access, damage, or loss, including the use of role-based access controls.

6. Documentation and Policies
- Detailed documentation of all digital preservation policies and procedures is maintained, ensuring they are available and up-to-date for all members of the editorial team and technical staff.
- Digital preservation policies are regularly reviewed and updated to adapt to changes in technology and industry best practices.
