Abstract

The geomorphological mapping allows the representation of different forms and features of relief and the systems and geomorphological units in an area. In this sense, there was a proposal for classification of the geomorphological of the Itú’s Hydrographic Basin looking to use the names already used for the partitioning in Rio Grande do Sul State. The mapping used 1:50.000 topographic charts, satellite images and field work. There were certain attributes of the network of drainage, topography features, geological substrate, classes of soil and surface features. The integration of data and compilation of maps enabled the definition of the different levels of geomorphological compartmentalization. The first level is represented by the compartment of the sedimentary deposits Quaternary and the sedimentary basins and roofs. The second level is represented by three compartments: the foodplains of major rivers, the Araucárias Plateau and the Campanha Plateau. The third level is represented by seven compartments: alluvial plane areas, the tops plans of Plateau, relief of the steep slope, the hills of volcanic rock and sadstones, the hills with steep slope of volcanic rock and sandstones. The analysis by geomorphological study presents an important elements to environmental managing and planning.
