Abstract

Susceptibility mapping is a critical component of risk area management. This study employs the probabilistic Weight of Evidence (WoE) method to map mass movement susceptibility in the Cadeia River basin, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The WoE approach quantifies the relationship between categorical predictors and binary event occurrences by calculating weights for each attribute class based on landslide inventories. The analysis utilized geospatial data derived from a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) provided by SEMA/RS and scars from mass movements triggered by extreme rainfall in May 2024 in southern Brazil. The results indicate that slope and convergent water flow are the factors that most influence slope instability. The model validated the theoretical assumptions, achieving an AUC-TOC index of 0.872. These results reiterate the effectiveness of the WoE method in delimiting susceptible areas.
