The article portrays, from an ethnographic approach among dairy cow breeders in Paraíba, the skills (human and animal) that are woven by the technique of milking. The relational (and affective) dimension between breeder-cow-calf appears as a central element for the development of milking, milk letdown or extraction. Holding back and/or emptying the cow's udder is the foundation of the breeder's skill. Each of these actions goes through the emotions and affections of the animals. It is in this composition that the breeder will develop a field of attention to the cows' actions through an individual affective memory of the personality and temperament of each animal, and a relationship of trust through feeling together.
Keywords: skills; milking; human-animal relationship.
