Abstract

This study aimed to verify the impact of the three water crises that occurred in Brazil between 2001 and 2021 on the indicators of profitability and indebtedness of the companies in the electrical energy sector listed in B3. The methodology applied is classified as quantitative, descriptive and documentary, using the information contained in the financial statements of 23 companies in the segments of generation, transmission and distribution of electricity that composed the sample, characterized as intentional by nonprobabilistic convenience. Six multiple linear regression models were applied to assess the influence of water crisis proxies on the profitability and indebtedness indicators of the companies studied. The result of the models' execution suggests that the explanatory power of the independent variables over the dependents is practically irrelevant. It is concluded that, during the period studied, the impact of water crises on the indicators of profitability and indebtedness of the companies in the electric energy sector listed in B3 was low or almost zero.
