Abstract

This research has as its objective an empirical investigation of the influence that education and postschool investments (experience) exercise on worker's earnings, taking into account the interaction among the determinants of labor market participation and earnings. The earnings equations were estimated using data from PNAD (1995), for urban men and women. Based on the obtained coefficients, the returns to education and experience were calculated. The returns to education were larger for women, and the returns to the experience always presented smaller values than the returns to education.
