Flow and Impression Test Evaluation of Impression Compound Softened in Microwave Oven

Abstract


The aim of this study was to verify the possibility of the microwave oven for the softening of the impression compound. In order to do so, flow and impression quality properties were analyzed in agreement with A.D.A. Specification n° 3. For the flow test 20 type I impression compound specimens were made, from which 10 were submitted to the flow test at a temperature of 37°C, and the other 10 at 45°C. For the quality of impression test 10 specimens were made, after molding were poured in special gypsum type IV, and submitted to a qualitative evaluation. The results showed that either in the flow test or the impression quality, the softening of the impression compound in the microwave oven proved to be efficient since the flow values for both temperatures (37°C and 45°C) were found to be nearby the established by the A.D.A., and its impression was satisfying. It was possible to conclude that the impression compound softened in the microwave oven shows flow and detail reproduction capacity in the agreement of the requirements of the specification, demonstrating the viability of the utilization of the microwave oven for this matter.
