Significant advances on elaboration of vaccine against dental caries are result of several genetic and molecular investigations addressed to S. mutans and S. sobrinus and to the mechanism of immune host response. These investigations lead to the recognition not only of which are the best streptococcal vaccine antigen candidates, as well as more efficient immunogen routes, responsible for dicreasing bacterial colonization and, consequently, the number of carious lesions. The present paper makes a critical evaluation about up-to-date aspects related to the progression and limitations of principal types proposed as an anti-caries vaccine.Downloads
