Emotional effects of tooth loss in adults

Abstract


The purpose of this study was to identify the possible emotional changes related to tooth loss in adults. A questionnaire was ap plied to 100 complete or partial edentulous patients, with or without replacement. The results showed that the sample presented emotional and physic changes after tooth loss. 63% of the participants had self-confidence affected, and in 70% difficulties in accep ting the tooth absence was observed. It was concluded that tooth loss affects people emo tional well-being, besides debilitating the appearance and some daily activities.
