This article discusses a methodological proposal for the identification and validation of neonyms in the area of nanotechnology. The objective of this paper is to describe the stages to attain the validation of candidate neonyms in the area mentioned before. As a result of this research a three-phase model is presented to validate neonyms. This model consists of gathering of the text corpus, validation of terms and validation of neonyms. The results indicate that the internal gear of each phase should have defined criteria based on theory. It is also necessary that each phase count on a product that will become the input of the subsequent phase so that the latter can derive the data required according to its goal. The procedure followed to validate neonyms showed that the use of tools helps to retrieve more reliable and quick data. However, the tool-free verification is of paramount importance for tuning the procedures to obtain those data that a software process cannot guarantee. Moreover, the validation of neonyms through text and terminographic resources produced by specialized organizations is particularly reliable. Finally, a marked tendency of neonym formation by means of syntagmatic processes was evident.Downloads
