Nursing consultation in a health vigilance program: the Prá-Nenê experience

Abstract

This study aims at describing the opinion of parents of children enrolled in the Pra-Nenê Program about the health education activities performed by the nurse during the nursing appointment at a Basic Health Center in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. This program develops health vigilance actions for children over their first year of life. It is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research carried out with 15 subjects by means of semi-structured individual interview. The information was analyzed according to the technique of Content Analysis. The families’ perception about the nurse activities comprised: establishment of a helping relationship with the users, guidelines that collaborate with the development of the children and performance of the nurse in an interdisciplinary approach. According to the families’ opinion, the nurse activities are performed by a qualified professional who in the practice meets the premises of health promotion.
