It is a research aimed at finding out the lay midwives’ practices while attending women upon delivery and their childbirth. The methodology was supported by the oral history of the midwives, using Bardin’s thematic analysis. The findings regarding the midwives’ activities reveal the domestic character of their practices, being themselves one of these resources, besides others that they have adopted to perform their practices. The rescue of those practices may lead health professionals to think about the current proposals to humanize delivery and childbirth.Downloads
