Abstract

The study classifies patients hospitalized in a clinical unit according to a scale based on the patients’ individual needs of nursing care, by rating them into minimum, intermediary, semi-intensive and intensive through the evaluation of 13 critical indicators. 968 examinations have been carried out, representing 97.8% of assessed beds in a unit with 45 beds in the period from February 19 to March 19, 2002. 68% of the patients required minimum care, 26,7% intermediate care and 26,7% semi-intensive care. This study provides subsidies for the implementation of new researches and inquiries aiming at quantifying nursing human resources.
