Reflections about a nurse’s experience in caring for clientes with AIDS based on a homeodynamics model

Abstract

This paper reports my experience on care to clients with AIDS, based on a Homeodynamics Model of Martha E Rogers which was published in a previous issue of this journal. I present the steps that I lived through in this process and emphasize the challenges, the gains, and the opportunities for personal-professional and environmental growth as well as the alternative therapies I utilized with those clients. From that experience I recommend the use of this model in the process of caring for clients with AIDS, due to the humanistic, innovative and effective approach it offers. However, I call attention for the fact that its utilization requires, from the part of the nurse, a new world view, demanding new attitudes and values, new ways of perceiving, beyond the five senses.
