Abstract

Focusing on the sanitary visitors, a review of the history of nursing in Rio Grande do Sul is carried out. Aspects related to the organization of health assistance services, the beginning of Public Health Nursing, the development of the course for sanitary visitors, its officialization and extinction are considered.
