Christian concepts related to the body, sexuality, and contraceptive practices: implications for educational work

Abstract

In this article, we discuss Christian religious concepts related to the female body, sexuality, and contra-ceptive practices. Our objective was to show their importance for educational practice. We focused on the historical construction of the idea of impure feminine body, the control of the sexual desire by reason and male dominations, and other rulings on sex and reproduction. When health professionals are aware of this influence on their discourse and practice, they are able to lead educational groups promoting empowerment in sexual and reproductive health, opening spaces for the establishment of new relationships between these subjects and building integral health.
