Entomogen galls in host plants in an Atlantic forest urban fragment of the Pernambuco endemism center

Abstract

Plant galls are abnormal outgrowths of plant tissues and can be caused by various inducing agent. The objective of this study was characterize the galls induced by insect in host plants in an urban remnant of Atlantic forest. Branches with galls was collected, observed and described the morphological characteristics as color, form, pubescence, grouping and localization of galls. After the emergency of the inductor, the insects and galls were fixed in ethanol 70% and included in the galls collection. Thirty and two morphotypes of galls had been associated with 13 families of host plants, located in leaves (67.14%), stem (28.57%) and buds (<5%). Galls were characterized for presenting green coloration (66.66%), grouped (55.55%), glabrous (92.6%) and amorphous (42.59%), spherical (25%) and cylindrical (15%) shapes.
