Plantago is a cosmopolitan genus. In Brazil occur about 16 species for this genus. A survey of the species was conducted based on the literature, field collections and the review of regional herbaria. For the Southern Brazil, the occurrence of 12 species was confirmed: Plantago australis Lam., P. brasiliensis Sims, P. catharinea Decne., P. coronopus L., P. commersoniana Decne. ex Barnéoud, P. guilleminiana Decne., P. lanceolata L., P. myosuros Lam., P. major L., P. penantha Griseb., P. tomentosa Lam., P. turficola Rahn in three subgenus and five sections. The synonymy of P. australis subsp. angustifolia (Pilg.) Rahn in P. australis is proposed. This work presents key for identification, descriptions, illustrations, and data on habitat, phenological and geographical distribution of the confirmed species.Downloads
