A INFLUÊNCIA DO ESPORTE NA ESTATURA FINAL EM CRIANÇAS

Resumen

Existem preocupações crescentes, a respeito do efeito do esporte, principalmente competitivo, sobre o crescimento ósseo longitudinal, em crianças. As investigações, inclusive experimentos com animais,
não mostram uma resposta definitiva sendo que muitos apontam um efeito negativo, ao passo que outros mostram influência temporária ou nenhuma no crescimento. A preocupação com o tema tem aumentado nos últimos anos, na medida que o esporte competitivo está sendo praticado por um número crescente de crianças pré-púberes e púberes. Esta revisão avalia o efeito do esporte competitivo no crescimento ósseo longitudinal e alguns dos fatores que influenciam a estatura final, em crianças pré-púberes e púberes.

ABSTRACT

Concern has been raised regarding the effect of sports, mainly in competition, on the linear bone growth in children. Research, including animal experimente, does not show a clear response about It. Some studies show an adverse effect, but others show a temporary or no influence on the linear bone growth. The fact that many prepubertal
and pubertal children are in sports has been the subject of discussion in the last years. This review evaluates the literature pertinent to the effects of sports in the bone growth and some of the factor that Influences final stature, in prepubertal and pubertal children.
