DESASTRES CAUSADOS POR TEMPESTADES E ELEVADOS ÍNDICES PLUVIOMÉTRICOS NO RIO GRANDE DO SUL EM 2011 E 2012

Abstract

Rio Grande do Sul is located in a region favorable to severe weather conditions, due to the characteristics of its geographical position and atmospheric circulation. The analysis of official disaster documents (AVADAN and FIDE) for the years 2011 and 2012 made possible to estimate losses greater than 300 million reais in each of these years as a result only from disasters of hydrometeorological origin, being the disasters related to windstorms and floods responsible for the greatest economic damage. The regions of Passo Fundo and Porto Alegre were the most affected in the analyzed period.
