The new information and communication technologies are present in most spaces and are important economic, political and social interaction means. The smartphone today is one of the most present technologies in people's lives, due to its ease of purchase and use, as it is currently not only intended for making calls, but a device with utility for almost all everyday actions. So, analyzing the possibility of including this technology as an educational resource was the objective of this research. First, a bibliographic survey was carried out on the use of the smartphone as a didactic resource. Followed by a data collection with a structured form, applied in two schools in the city of Caçador/SC, in order to analyze the social characteristics of the students, what are their relationships with the school environment and technological means and, finally, their desires with Geography classes. With the research data, it was possible to conclude that students are increasingly connected, even though there is a difference according to the living space, and that they tend to learn better or have more motivation for learning when taught with the use of some technology. For this, the research brings some suggestions of applications and ways of using smartphones in Geography classes.
