This article is part of a larger study that makes up a doctoral thesis about a socio-spatial analysis from the perspective of the Geography of one of the neighborhoods in the city of Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. The neighborhood in question, Campo Novo, located in the south zone of Porto Alegre, has been going through a series of socio-spatial transformations motivated by real estate developments, elements that are part of the landscape and the daily life of the residents. The objective of this article is, albeit brief, to bring some of the new elements that will be present in the daily life of the community, in the near future and through Geography to point out ways to understand the phenomenon of urban production today. We observe that, from the year 2010 (last update of the Master Plan for Urban and Environmental Development), the significant increase in the construction of gated communities in the neighborhood and south zone. Geography, as a science that studies space and its reproduction, contributes to an analysis based not only on current transformations, but also on possible changes that may occur for the local community.
