MULHERES COSMOGONIA E ARTES AFRICANAS NOS PERÍODOS PRÉ E PÓS-COLONIAL NA ÁFRICA SUBSAARIANA: algumas reflexões

Abstract

This article aims to discuss the situation of women among some African ethnicities in the pre-colonial period and during it, as well as the change undergone in the thinking of these ethnicities under the influence of Eurocentric theories. Expanding our field of analysis, we will use female images sculpted in African arts, understanding African artistic production as an expression of the way of thinking and being, as well as “a way of being present in the visible and invisible worlds” (Hampâté-Bâ: 1979 :16). The philosophy of art that we will use will be based on the thought of Roger Somé because “the very essence of black-African art is to signify, and not to imitate, it is to take the form that appears in the matter to present a message, it is a communicative art” (Some, R. Apud Munanga, 2003).
