ENHANCEMENT: humanidade e pós-humanidade sob a perspectiva de Francis Fukuyama

Abstract

The Japanese-American philosopher Francis Fukuyama is a resounding voice in contemporary intellectual production about man and his possibilities. The concept of enhancement points precisely to one of these possibilities: that man has the capacity to reinvent himself and to overcome the barriers imposed by nature, and needs to be prepared to deal with this capacity. Assuming a bioconservative stance, Fukuyama calls attention to patrimonies such as the concept of "human dignity" and "human freedom" that need, at any cost, to be protected, especially by supranational institutions of law.
