Abstract

In 1934 Karl Popper published what many regard as his magnum opus The Logic of Scientific Discovery andpostulated the falsificationism method. The falsificationism affirm that we cannot prove that a theory is true, but we can certainly show that a prediction is false. The main objective of this article is to understand the contributions of this doctrine for the advance of cognitive sciences. On the other hand, this work emphasizes the limitations of the applicability of the hypothetic-deductive method. These limitations are related to ontological explanations developed in some approaches of this discipline. The author does not refute the importance of the falsificationism to cognitive sciences but postulate that there are unfalseable statements about mental reality.
