Abstract

Through a bibliographical revision of the naturalists' nassovians Guilherme Piso and Georg Marcgrave main works on the natural history of the Brazilian Northeast the observations were registered on plants and animals associated to places, that later were located in Dutch maps of the century XVII and compared in current maps on his location and current denominations. Marcgrave registered 15 animal species and 12 vegetable species and Piso observed 23 vegetable species associated to several places. These results, when compared with the totality of their descriptions and observations on plants and animals, they indicate thedeliberate intention of not informing the places, probably for reasons of the governmentsfrom Dutch Brazil safety. It deserves prominences the plants found in Olinda by Piso and Marcgrave, as well as the participation of this last one in scientific tripsin the itinerary between Recife and Penedo.
