Abstract

In recent years, the experience of some Latin American countries has contradicted classical theories on the institutionalization of party systems, generating a new wave of studies. This article contributes to this debate by carrying out a theoretical review of the concept, its operationalization and its limitations to measure the institutionalization of party systems in Latin America. Finally, the new study agenda on institutionalization is collected.
