ABSTRACT: This article aims to analyze the possible contributions of Bakhtinian Studies to the teaching of argumentation in Brazil. To this end, it seeks to reflect on the historical-philosophical context of the works of the Bakhtin Circle, in particular, on the philosophical and sociological origins of the dialogical conception of language, in accordance with Brandist (2016) and Brandist and Lähteenmaki (2022). Within this perspective, notions such as ethical-responsible act, non-alibi in existence and living word (BAKHTIN, 2010) are discussed with a view to thinking of argumentation as a socially, politically and ethically responsible practice and a right to learning. Argumentation as a social practice and a right to learning can lead us to a culture of argumentation, as proposed by Zarefsky (2009) and Grácio (2022; 2023), in which dialogue is the basis of argumentation and of an emancipatory human coexistence and, therefore, transformative of society.
