Abstract

At the beginning of the 20th century, the trials undertaken by artists and Russian designers have changed the context of set design for Theater. The industrial backwardness felt in post-revolution Russia would make the technology did not accompany the creative work undertaken by the artistic avant-garde designers. In this sense, we are witnessing particularly unpublished experiences under the plastic and constructive point of view in the pedagogical context and scenic creation, namely the concepts developed by constructivists. In 1925, some of these projects would be exposed at the International Exhibition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts held in Paris, surprising the audience by their sense of modernity. Revolutionary plays and other illustrating daily life were staged up, narrowing the relationship between the public and the ideological message that was intended to be communicated. The aim of this article is to analyze at first, the main breaks over a past strongly influenced by the classic design of the Italian theater. Then we are interested in dissecting the meanings and principles present in the spatial composition of some ephemeral architectures representative of the action of the artistic avant-garde, particularly related to the utopia of a new theater for a new man.
