Monitoring and Evaluation in Cultural Policies: the contributions and challenges of the Observatory of Culture of Porto Alegre

Cultural researcher and administrator Álvaro Santi reports on his experience as coordinator of the Observatory of Culture of Porto Alegre, a project linked to the extinct Studies and Research Office of the Municipal Secretary of Culture, coordinated by him from 2010 to 2018. Presenting mistakes and successes along his path at the head of this project, Álvaro describes some challenges faced in the management of this instrument designed for surveying, analyzing and disseminating cultural data in the municipality, within the scope of the public administration. This interview was conducted online, focused on monitoring and evaluation issues in the public policy cycle, considering the relevance and uniqueness of this initiative in our state and aiming at encouraging the continuity of similar actions.
