This article explores the role of physical space in the Maranhão theatrical performance Negro Cosme em Movimento. The literature review examines the connection between performance and alternative theatrical spaces—the “station cities” linked to the Balaiada Revolt—emphasizing the work in progress methodology. By integrating epic, lyrical, and dramatic elements, the analysis draws on Walter Benjamin, Paulo Freire, and Heiner Müller. The study concludes that the Cena Aberta group redefines urban spaces as theatrical stages, challenging conventions and fostering political engagement.
