Abstract

The article analyzes a hybrid text by Oswald de Andrade, O Santeiro do Mangue – a mixture of lyrical poems, narrative fragments and dramatic and choral dialogues –, as a representative of a negative modern Brazilian dramaturgy. Formulations by Theodor Adorno and Walter Benjamin are appropriated and displaced here to understand the aspects of negativity that unite works of national dramaturgy with the particular and peripheral Brazilian historical formation.
