The drag art and getting into drag: normality tensioning alternatives in art teaching

Abstract

With references to intersectional, queer, post-structuralist, trans, and post-human feminist theories, this article aims to present an alternative (po)ethical corrosion of the power structures that impose a standard of bodily normality. In the context of introductory Drag Art workshops, it seeks a practical unfolding of the concept of "Pe-drag-ogy." A perspective of non-annihilation and an understanding of Drag Art as a masquerade tradition belonging to the LGBTQIAPN+ community are fundamental principles addressed for the construction of a didactics founded in Performing Arts for the training of Drag Queens, Kings, and Queers. The work narrates some aspects of the Drag pedagogical experience and describes three classroom exercises.

Jeanne Martins Speckart, Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina – Florianópolis/SC, Brasil

Atriz, drag queen e mestranda. Pesquisadora em nível de Mestrado da arte drag na linha Pedagogias das Artes Cênicas do PPGAC-UDESC. Bacharela em Artes Cênicas pela UNICAMP (2020) onde foi pesquisadora PIBIC/CNPq na área da pedagogia da máscara, com o projeto "A máscara teatral como instrumento pedagógico: da confecção à cena" (2018-2019). Atualmente também estuda Licenciatura em Teatro na UDESC. Tem experiência em atuação teatral, performance drag, maquiagem cênica, confecção de máscaras teatrais e produção de festivais teatrais. Artista visual autoditada.

Gina María Monge Aguilar, Universidade Estadual de Campinas – Campinas/SP, Brasil

Gina Monge é professora, pesquisadora, atriz e diretora de Teatro. Formada como bacharel em Artes Dramáticas pela Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), Mestre e Doutora em Artes Cênicas pela Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Atualmente é professora em regime de dedicação integral no Departamento de Artes Cênicas do Instituto de Artes da Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp). Trabalha com temas como corpo-voz para o ator, teatro latino-americano, feminismo negro.
