Between powers, vulnerabilities, and narratives of the burlesque body

Abstract

The article explores the relationship between power and vulnerability in the context of burlesque, a multifaceted artistic domain that subverts norms and conventions. The aim of this study is to unveil the complex interactions between the naked female body and burlesque performances, highlighting how this interaction raises profound questions about the dichotomy of female autonomy and patriarchal constraints. The article belongs in the scope of performing arts and has as its reference authors such as Sheril Dodds (2013), Annie Suquet (2012) and José Gil (2013), among others, and also uses dance experiences anchored in the bodies of the authors as autoethnography tools.Through this investigation, conclusions emerge that reveal burlesque as a space of resistance and resignification of paradigms, where power is dynamic.
