Abstract

With the main object of this study being Laban’s Dance and Movement Choirs, this article is set out with the following question: could the choir practices developed by Rudolf Laban, specially during the 1930’ in Germany,  be read as a dance of masses? For that purpose, the article searches, first of all, to address the ‘mass’ concept and map the historical progress of Movement Choirs as a project in its peak in the last century. Furthermore, it is also discussed in the text another perspective entitled “dance of multitude”, based on the homonymous concept created by the philosophers Antonio Negri and Michael Hardt.

Camila Simonin, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) e Faculdade Angel Vianna (FAV)

Camila Simonin é artista do movimento e diretora teatral. Atualmente, é mestranda no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Dança na UFRJ. Além disso, está em processo de conclusão no Curso de Pós-Graduação em Sistema Laban Bartenieff na Faculdade Angel Vianna, sob coordenação de Regina Miranda e Ana Bevilaqua. Possui ainda formação nas técnicas Suzuki e Viewpoints pela SITI Company, companhia dirigida por Anne Bogart, em Nova York.


Lígia Losada Tourinho, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)

Lígia Tourinho é artista do movimento e coreógrafa. Professora Associada do Departamento de Arte Corporal e Coordenadora do Programa de Pós-graduação em Dança da UFRJ. Coordenadora do Grupo de Pesquisa em Dramaturgias do Corpo (CNPQ/UFRJ). Doutora e Mestre em Artes (UNICAMP). Bacharela em Artes Cênicas (UNICAMP). Analista do Movimento Laban/Bartenieff (CMA/LIMS/NYC).
