Abstract

In “Water music, de Handel”, Jorge de Sena recreates aspects of the music and its context in a poetic texture that invites reflection on an intriguing mutual relationship. However, the reception of the poem may pose a challenge, as resolving its semantic tensions and discontinuities would require one to assume not only a literary perspective, but also a musical one. In dealing with this problem, the present article takes the premise that a dialogical path to resolve such tensions lies in the very references created by the text. Therefore, to demonstrate how one could reconcile both perspectives into a coherent whole, I intend to read the poem in relation to its most salient historical and musical referents.
