Abstract

This article aims to explore some relationships with music in the poetic and prose works of Carlos Drummond de Andrade. We present an interpretation, primarily, of two poems: “Música” and “Beethoven.” The goal is to demonstrate a certain development in his musical approach, a consequence of a sort of listener’s formation of the poet. To that end, we also draw on other poems and prose texts by the author, as well as texts in which a certain lack of musical aptitude is outlined – by Drummond and by others. Our hypothesis also revolves around the numerous consequences, for listening, of new means of recording and reproduction, particularly the gramophone.
