Abstract

This paper aims to review the categories of real and realism, analyzing the bibliography on these terms and their employment in Brazilian literature. Here we discuss notions such as reality index and we also think about the way these indexes can be found in Brazilian novels. We compare a work written between the 1960s-1970s and other in the twenty-first century, by the analysis of the novels Zero (1974), by Ignácio de Loyola Brandão, and Eles Eram Muitos Cavalos, by Luiz Ruffato (2001). We intend here to verify marks of the indexal realism articulated by Schøllhammer (2013). In the end we present also a different thought on the notion of realism elaborated by Ginzburg (2012).
