Abstract

The novel O corpo interminável, by Claudia Lage, tells the story of Daniel in search of his origins and the reconstitution of the life of his mother, Julia. In the midst of the narration, the interest in the image is evident in the search for photographs of the mother and in the attempt to conceive a figure that represents her. In this article, we discuss the work starting from an analysis of the imagery representation in the narrative, in dialogue with postulates of psychoanalysis. For that, we turn to ancient rhetoricians such as Aristotle, Cicero and Quintilian, as well as authors such as Adorno, Didi-Huberman, Freud, Lacan and Ricoeur.
