A MENSAGEM FEMINISTA ATRAVESSA O OCEANO: A REPRODUÇÃO DE TEXTOS DE MARIA AMÁLIA VAZ DE CARVALHO NA REVISTA A MENSAGEIRA

Abstract

This paper proposes to think of the reproduction of the Portuguese writer Maria Amália Vaz de Carvalho’s works in the pages of A Mensageira magazine, as well as of the critical commentaries on her works, as evidence of the European influence in Brazilian feminist thinking.  The paper has three subsections: in the first of them, a brief exposition about the notion of copy in the formation of the cultural Brazilian world is written based on the contributions of Santiago (1978), Schwarz (1987), Decca (2002) and Melo (2020). In the second part, the situation of women and feminist thought is commented, mainly through the approaches of Santos (2010) and Schmidt (2017). In the third part, Carvalho’s works are commented from the perspective of the previously presented theories. In conclusion, it is noticed that the writer represented a relevant influence in Brazilian feminist thinking which was able to use Portugal’s ideas in its own context.
