From Alalc (LAFTA) to Mercosur

Abstract

Brief account of an unfinished history: the integration experiments in Latin America, since the first post-war initiatives, taking example on tue European attempts,  which gave way to the first Montevideo Treaty (1960), under the title of Latin American Free Trade Association (Alalc, in its Spanish acronym), being replaced by a second Montevideo Treaty (1980), creating the Latin American Integration Association (Aladi), going to a sub-regional phase, with the Common Market of the South, by. the Treaty of Asunción (1991), its initial developments and the current phase of a partial stagnation.
