LUIS FERNANDO VERISSIMO E AS ELEIÇÕES PRESIDENCIAIS 2018: CRÔNICAS PARA UMA CRÍTICA AO AUTORITARISMO BRASILEIRO
Abstract
This study examines the short prose texts “Marginais vermelhos”, “Memória”, “Respire fundo”, “Os omissos” and “Desilusões”, by Luis Fernando Verissimo, published in the context of the 2018 Brazilian presidential elections, and their relationship to the memory of the 1964 military dictatorship. Drawing on a theoretical and critical framework grounded in literature and society studies, the article analyzes Verissimo’s literary production with particular attention to his social commitment and to the political dimension of his short prose. It also discusses the broader electoral context and examines how elements of authoritarianism emerge in the texts as symptomatic traces of a phantasmagoric return of terror.
