Abstract

Abstract: Focusing on Ziraldo's children's book, The Brown Boy, with an aside consideration of Jefferson Tenório’s The Dark Side of the Skin, this essay examines how the difference in color is viewed by the children's characters and the narrator-author, in contrast to the attempts to ban the work from readings adopted in schools, driven by adults' fear of its harmful influence.
