Uso sustentável de recursos naturais: o exemplo da pesca na Amazônia

Abstract

A pesca artesanal na Amazônia brasileira é de grande importância como fonte de renda e alimentação para a população da região. A sustentabilidade da pesca amazônica é difícil de ser avaliada devido à escassez de dados de monitoramento da atividade. Diversas ameaças e impactos ambientais, a maioria de origem antrópica, têm afetado a atividade pesqueira. Sistemas de co-manejo que se desenvolveram na Amazônia brasileira podem auxiliar a promover a sustentabilidade ecológica e econômica no uso dos recursos pesqueiros. Esses sistemas incluem o co-manejo direcionado para espécies de peixe de grande valor comercial, acordos de pesca e áreas protegidas de uso sustentável. A colaboração com os pescadores artesanais, especialmente através do seu envolvimento nas pesquisas e da valorização do seu conhecimento tradicional sobre os peixes, é fundamental para se manter uma pesca mais sustentável através do co-manejo dos recursos pesqueiros na Amazônia brasileira.
