Abstract

Both the historiography and the memory that circulates about the civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985) have been privileging men, mainly college students who belong to either the middle or the upper class. Therefore, the selection called A ditadura na Tela: O Cinema Documentário e as Memórias do Regime Militar Brasileiro (which it could be translated as The dictatorship on the big screen: The Documentary Cinema and the Memories of the Brazilian Military Regime), is quite welcomed, since it promotes the dialogue between the history of the seventh art and other aspects, such as gender, race and sexuality, from the inside of the repression as well as the resistance.
