Symbolic violence and the antifeminism: an analysis of the era nova magazine (Parahyba, 1920)

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the antifeminist discourses that appeared in the press in the early twentieth century, based on pejorative representations, that participated in the elaboration of stigmas about feminists and ideals. While these women fought for rights, different discourses were built about them in an attempt to disqualify them. The analyzed source will be the magazine Era Nova (New Age) (1921-1926), literary and news periodical that circulated in Parahyba. This research to analyze these discourses as forms of symbolic violence, from the studies of Rachel Soihet, Pierre Bourdieu, and Roger Chartier. Establishing dialogue with studies of Gender, the History of Women and Cultural History.
