Memória e História Pública na Avenida
sambas-enredo e as questões étnico-raciais no carnaval carioca de 1988 e 2018
Abstract
This article proposes an investigation into the samba-enredo, a genre of Brazilian popular music, as a manifestation of a sonic culture aimed at reclaiming Afro-Brazilian memory and cultural identity. The study analyzes the lyrics of sambas-enredo presented to the public during the Rio de Janeiro special group samba school parades in the 1988 and 2018 Carnivals. The proposed analysis is grounded in the principles of Public History, considering the construction of historical narratives by audiences outside institutional and traditional spaces of historical knowledge development. Through our analysis, we observe that the musical expressions promoting this racial protest conveyed pride among the Black population regarding their identity and their stories of struggle since the era of enslavement. These expressions sought to compose cultural identity through new narratives that mark the temporal trajectory of groups and individuals.
