analysis of the Nazi symbols representations in electronic games

Authors

Abstract

The current article has as objective to analyze, historically, the ways in which the symbols of National Socialism are portrayed in electronic games that set out to create representations of the Second World War or derivative uchronies. Are used, to this end, theories related to the representations and visual perception phenomena, such well as methods that associate the perceptions of historical knowledge through video games. As a result, it is possible to discuss the problems arising from the conveyance of Nazi symbols in electronic games, such as their representation in antagonist characters and virtual scenarios, attempts to conceal or censor references to the totalitarian regime and the emotional impact that the aesthetics of these symbols tend to transmit on players. In this research, are used game franchises such as Wolfenstein, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Sniper Elite, among others.
